Standing up for clean water. The Surfers Against Sewage Paddle-Out.

On 17 May 2025, EGY stood alongside Surfers Against Sewage in their UK-wide Paddle-Out Protests. Communities, campaigners, and professionals united in a call for an end to sewage pollution in our rivers and seas.

For EGY, joining the protest was not about making a statement. It was about turning up for what we believe in: a future where water is clean, ecosystems are protected, and infrastructure serves both people and planet.

As engineers working at the intersection of blue-green infrastructure and sustainable design, we know the impacts of poor water management are real, widespread, and growing. Sewerage systems are outdated and inundated. Investment in nature-based solutions is chronically insufficient. Our water environments are at a breaking point that is entirely engineered, and entirely preventable.

The groundswell is real. Public awareness is rising. The call for accountability is growing louder. But momentum alone is not enough. The fight for cleaner waterways demands sustained pressure, better regulation, and serious investment in resilient, future-focused infrastructure. That is what we are here to help build.
